3 Sleepy Owls

One bright, sunny day, 3 sleepy owls were perched on the highest branch of the big tree in the middle of the park. They were trying so hard to keep their big eyes from closing. It was way past their bedtime!

HOOT!

“We must not fall asleep!” said Figgles, rubbing his eyes.

HOOT!

“We need to see what a rainbow looks like!” said Jiggles, wiggling his wings.

HOOT!

“I’m sure it will be pretty, just like what the book says!” said Miggles, fluttering her eyelids.

Figgles, Jiggles, and Miggles have been reading a bedtime story about a little boy who loves painting rainbows. The book said that rainbows have all sorts of colors in them. This got the 3 little owls very excited!

You see, owls are nocturnal animals. That means they’re awake at night and asleep during the day. At nighttime, the colors the 3 little owls see are just mostly gray and black. That’s why they’re so excited about seeing a rainbow for the first time!

Suddenly …

“Look!” Figgles exclaimed. “Is that a rainbow?”

Something colorful was laid out on the grass below! There were pinks, yellows, reds, and oranges!

“Rainbows are not supposed to be down on the ground,” said Jiggles and Miggles. “They’re way up in the sky!”

“You’re right,” replied Figgles. “That’s not a rainbow …”

It was a cluster of colorful tulips!

The 3 sleepy owls yawned …

“Look!” Jiggles exclaimed. “Is that a rainbow?”

Something colorful was fluttering around the park! It was orange with splotches of yellow!

“Rainbows don’t fly,” said Figgles and Miggles. “They stay in one spot up in the sky!”

“You’re right,” said Jiggles. “That’s not a rainbow …”

It was a butterfly!

The 3 sleepy owls yawned …

“Look!” Miggles exclaimed. “Is that a rainbow?”

Something colorful was up there in the sky! The 3 sleepy owls looked up and saw the color red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple!

“Rainbows can’t be that pretty,” said Figgles and Jiggles. “That’s the prettiest thing we’ve seen today!”

“You’re right,” said Miggles. “That’s not a rainbow …”

But it was a rainbow! It arched across the clear, blue sky, right above the 3 sleepy owls perched on the highest branch of the big tree in the middle of the park!

The 3 sleepy owls yawned … and fell fast asleep!

Love your owls names and it was fun to follow their adventure in their search for a rainbow. 🙂 I also write kids stories. There aren’t many kids blogs around, so I think we better to stick together. 😉
